I’ve been on a reading kick lately. I seem to go in spurts, sometimes reading 4-5 books a month and sometimes reading none at all. A couple months ago I finished the Harry Potter Series for the first time ever and then I took a break, but I’ve picked back up again and have read 4 books in the last 3 weeks and I’m working on my 5th!
I’m all about quick, easy, suck you in type books over the summer. It means that I can read a little while watching the kids play in the river or outside. Since I know I’m not the only mama who likes to read I wanted to share with you all what I’ve read recently, what I’m reading now and what’s on my “To-Read” list!
Read Recently

Three Dark Crowns is the first book in a series of 4 books. It’s considered YA. I was intrigued from the first time I read the back cover a few months ago and finally sat down and read it. One Dark Throne is the sequel to Three Dark Crowns. If you head to Amazon you can read more about it but I didn’t want to give anything away! I enjoyed the follow up to Three Dark Crowns just as much as the first one!
Two Dark Reigns is the 3rd book in the series and the last one until the fourth and final book comes out in September. This one was a little slower moving but still good and I’m excited for the series conclusion!
Queens of Fennbirn goes along with the Three Dark Crowns world but they’re stand alone novellas. With that being said I chose not to read them until I was finished with the first three and would suggest the same. This book includes two Novellas, The Young Queens, which dives deeper into the lives of Mirabella, Katherine and Arsinoe before they went to live with their foster families. The second book The Oracle Queen goes back 500 years in Fennbirn’s history to tell the tale of Queen Elsabeth, the mad queen. I’m 99% sure I could read about every single Queen of Fennbirn both those crowned and the ones vying for the crown and still not have enough of this world!
Currently Reading
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Only then would she wonder if she’d traveled too far, if there was still a way home.
I started reading Educated before the Three Dark Crowns series and ended up putting it down to finish all three books plus the novellas. Now that I’m finished with the series (for now) I’ve started reading Educated again.
So far I’m enjoying it but apparently not as much as others. I know a lot of people who couldn’t put it down and finished within two days. Clearly since I read 4 books after starting Educated, I’m not in that category. Like I said, it’s good, just for me, a slower read. I think part of my disconnect with the book is the fact that some of the things Tara Westover’s family is doing I 100% agree with living off the land, herbal remedies etc. But then they often cross the line, not seeking medical treatment when treatement is clearly needed, going from homeschooling to not schooling at all. It puts me in this place of “oh that’s so awesome, I’d love for my family to do something like that” to “oh my goodness that is too far and not okay”.
I brought it with me to New York, if I don’t finish it before I had to SLC I’ll take it with me there too!
